WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
baby teresa was originally founded back in 2009 by two mums who joined forces to create a business that focussed on giving back. With many of their friends having children both mums were finding it hard to find baby shower gifts with real meaning; thus baby teresa was born. The concept is a very simple one, for each romper sold another is donated to a baby in need. Later the accessories of bibs, hats and blankets were added and sales from these goes towards funding formula for selected orphanages.
By late 2015 baby teresa had donated to over 20 countries and had press coverage both locally, Australia wide and internationally (US Today show) but at this stage both the founders felt it was time for baby teresa to be adopted in order for it to grow further.
Now in 2016, baby teresa has had a total revamp in both the website and donation partnerships, with exciting new lines coming soon. Lots of new change but rest assured the core values installed by the founders remain very much at the heart of the company.
IT STARTED WITH A ROMPER
The concept has always remained a simple one with baby teresa, you buy one you give one. Clothing is a basic need but unfortunately not always able to be met, baby teresa’s mission is to alleviate one of the worries carers can have with little ones and support them by providing new rompers. For some mothers this is the first new item they have ever been able to put on one of their children and the many orphanages we have visited literally run out of clothing.
A lot of people believe that our donations are solely focused on third world countries, and of course this is certainly where there is a very obvious need, however our very first donation was in fact to the Launceston Benevolent Society who assist families in need. We continue to donate and have a strong programme supporting teenage young mothers in Australia and also Mothers Centres.
IT CONTINUED WITH FORMULA
We have been really fortunate to call on the advise of volunteers who work all over the world. When we introduced our accessory line we knew that it was likely that these tiny babies in need didn’t need a spunky hat or bib – so our question was “What do they need?”
Carrie Hesketh has been a long term ambassador for baby teresa and has been volunteering in Vietnam in orphanages for many years. When asked the question she recounted that the kids that she interacts with live on around 25 cents per day. They’re malnourished, they don’t have access to breast milk and the formula they’re given is watered down. Formula she said would be of huge assistance.
We now also donate 25% of our profits towards charities that empower women during pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Wherever they are in the world. The charities are chosen seasonally and if there is a charity you are particularly passionate we would love to hear about it. Drop us a line at email@example.com and tell us all about it.
Our donations have taken us to over 20 countries worldwide, from Peru to Indonesia, Australia to France and Uganda to Egypt to name a few. At our ‘Donation Sites’ you find just a few of the places either we have personally been to or baby teresa volunteers have graciously been. For each baby outfit we sell we also donate another to a child in need. For each accessory item we sell, a portion of the sales go to purchasing formula for babies in need (typically in orphanages). Plus 25% of our profits goes towards charities that empower women during pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Wherever they are in the world.
